Three Months Old

Another month has gone by and again we have lots of growth to report. Lucy is growing like a weed (if you can't tell). It is funny- when I was pregnant with Lucy, Jason and I kept saying that this time around we would get to see what an average size baby was like (because Jake was always so big). Boy were we wrong! And I believe that Lucy is actually bigger than Jake was at this point, which is even funnier.

Lucy continues to be a very easy-going, happy baby. She is always smiling and making the cutest cooing and squealing sounds. She has really started to draw out her sounds more, so now it seems like she is "talking" to us. And I swear (and Jason has even said this too), that she makes a noise that sounds just like she is saying "mama". I recently taught Jake how to show that he is three years old with his fingers. Here he is below using the same finger sign to show that Lucy is three months old:

Brother and sister- too cute. Is it just me or does Lucy's head look as big as Jake's in these pictures?!

Lucy has really been using her hands a lot more this past month, reaching for things and even holding on to a soft rattle for a short time. She is more interested in her mobile and will even grab and bat at some of the things dangling down from it. She loves staring at/smiling at her family and will gaze at us as we walk across the room. She continues to be very strong and can now hold her head up at a 45 degree angle during tummy time. She also continues to nurse and sleep well. She sleeps around 10 hours at night, but usually wakes up for about 10 minutes at some point during that time to nurse and fall right back asleep- loving this!

I was trying to add some pictures that really capture her size. People have been guessing that she is about 5-6 months old when they see her for the first time. Well, she is actually already wearing 6-9 month clothes! Lucy, as I have said in a previous blog, keep on growing girl- we love it!!

We love you so, so much Lucy! It has been such an amazing past three months with you in our lives. We can't imagine it any other way, so it is hard to believe that just three short months ago you weren't here yet. You have been the most wonderful addition to our family and we continue to look forward to all the different stages you will go through!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot- lots of drooling and smacking/sucking on her gums this past month. So, I think some teeth might be coming in the next couple of months (Jake's teeth started coming in early as well).

Beautiful Weather

We've been loving this mild winter we have been having this year! So we had to take another one of our many trips to the zoo to enjoy it:

In case you were wondering, Lucy was there too:

Growing

It seems like Lucy keeps getting bigger and bigger every day! Did you notice that she was in the 97th percentile for height at her 2 month check up?! I think it is so funny that Jason and I have these two giant kids! Keep growing Lucy- we love it!! Here are some pictures I took when we were recovering from our stomach bug:

And big brother Jake was so happy to be feeling better:

Snow Tubing

We went up to the mountains recently so that Jason could take Jake snow tubing. Here are some pictures from our adventure!

Lucy staying warm and bundled up while we watched big brother Jake:

It was very windy and snowy the morning we left. Jake and I went out to enjoy it for a minute before getting back on the road towards home:

We had so much fun! But who knew such a quick, overnight trip would turn into such a long, hard week for us. Upon returning, we all got sick with a stomach bug that took us out one by one- first Jake, then me, then Lucy, and finally Jason. It was no fun to go through, but we made it and are now all feeling much better!

The Big Three

Look who turned three years old today!!! Normally I would say, wow- is it really already Jake's 3rd birthday. But the only thing I am surprised about this time around is that he is turning three instead of five. Ever since Jake turned two, people have guessed that he was at least three. So now the time has come...

Below are some pictures from the birthday party we had for him at school this morning. They were all sitting around the table ready for their cupcakes when we showed up. Jake looked less than thrilled to have to wear this hat they put on him, but I think secretly he felt special!

Jake really has become a big boy this past year. He is so sharp and absolutely brilliant. And I am not just saying that b/c I am his mother. Everyone who has come in contact with him has told me how smart he is. And that, coupled with how big he is, has been the reason they have always guessed he is older than he really is. It is amazing to hear his conversations and listen to the types of questions he asks people. He is really interested in understanding what others are saying and he always wants to make sure that you have understood him as well! He is, simply put, a very bright little boy.

People always talk about the terrible twos, but this past year really was a terrific one with Jake. He definitely had his occasional temper tantrums and lately he has started to assert himself more. He has been testing his limits and trying to figure out his boundaries. But, overall he is a very good and well-behaved little guy. And we have enjoyed every single second of this past year with him!

Some of Jake's current interests are playing with trains and cars, riding bikes/scooters/cars/trucks/four wheelers, kicking the soccer ball, painting and water coloring, listening and dancing to music, playing instruments, chasing, hiding, building tents, and reading books. He has enjoyed starting preschool and has really developed and interest in playing with other kids lately. One of his favorite things to do is playing chase with them! He really is a very outgoing boy and quickly attracts the attention of other kids (as you can tell in the pictures above when they are playing at school).

We really look forward to finding out what three years old has in store for us! Jake will be starting swim lessons and soccer in the Spring, so that will be exciting. Jake is very competitive and already loves to kick the soccer ball around, so I think he is really going to enjoy it :)

Happy birthday big boy! We love you so much and hope you had a good one this year!! Happy 3 years old!!!

Two Months Old

Didn't I just post the one month old blog?! Wow- Lucy is already two months old!! As you can see, this past month has been filled with Big Smiles :) Lucy has the best temperament- she always seems to be happy. She gives the biggest, sweetest smiles. And she has started squealing and cooing too, so that has been fun!

So much growth to report from this past month! Lucy is still nursing and sleeping really well. She sleeps between 6-8 1/2 hours at night and has started leaning more towards the 8 1/2 hours, which has been fantastic! Also- when she does wake up, it is just to nurse for about 10 minutes before she is off to sleep for a couple more hours. So, needless to say, the sleeping thing has been great this time around!

Lucy is still a little wobbly, but she is holding her head up very well now. And she is so strong, already pushing herself up to a standing position on my lap when I hold her underneath her arms. She is picking her head up some too when she gets tummy time.

Lucy's night time fussiness has pretty much completely disappeared. She actually only seems to get fussy now when she starts to get tired. Here she is getting sleepy and tired of me taking all these pictures!

And here she is with Jake! I can't forget to mention what a great big brother Jake has been- so much help!! He is so cute with Lucy, sneaking her little kisses every now and then.

Lucy has also started sucking on her fists this past month. And she is trying to get her thumb in her mouth, she almost has it figured out!

Stats from 2 month check up:

Weight: 12 lbs 8.5 oz (90%)
Height: 24 in (97%)
Head: 15 3/4 (75%)

And lastly, a couple of pictures taken on New Year's Day. We wish you all a very Happy New Year! This past year was a really good one for us with the new little addition to our family. And we know this upcoming year will be equally as good with two precious children to love on and watch grow!!
